Formulas are the key to getting work done in Excel.

By Greg Harvey Normally, Excel 2013 recalculates your worksheet automatically as soon you change any entries, formulas, or names on which your formulas depend.

This system works fine as long as the worksheet is not too large or doesn’t contain tables whose formulas depend on several values.

The NOW function takes no arguments; it is entered with empty parentheses.

When you enter the NOW function in a cell, it will display the current date and time.

As soon as you stop making entries or selecting commands, Excel resumes recalculating the worksheet.

Normally, worksheets recalculate each time they are opened so every day that the worksheet is opened the date will change unless automatic recalculation is turned off.

To prevent having the date change each time a worksheet using automatic recalculation is opened, try using this keyboard shortcut to enter the current date instead.

When updating an Excel spreadsheet formulas do not update automatically as values are entered or updates.

Instead the formula only updates after the formula is edited or the spreadsheet is closed and opened again.
